Opportunities

We Need Your Skills And Help

Join one of our operational committees for something interesting and another source of camaraderie. These are usually limited duration activities where your help will be of great value and help us achieve our goals.

Interested? Drop a quick e-mail to info@dennishistoricalsociety.org with the Committee name in the subject block and how we can contact you in the body of the e-mail.

Book Marketing Committee – We need ideas, plans and thoughts on how to market the DHS Books locally and nationally. What makes sense? What are the benefits and costs of each way? All suggestions are very valuable.

Jericho Barn Committee – A new planning committee is starting to begin an upgrade of the wonderful Barn at Jericho -- to include such things as new/revised displays, lighting etc. Great opportunities to contribute and to see your ideas become fulfilled!

Dennis Historical Society - Bass River Bridge

Library – DHS has a large and growing library on the second floor of the West Dennis Library. We are continually receiving new material that must be catalogued, digitized, some transcribed, prepared for display etc. It’s a great way to become more familiar with the history of Dennis while helping us maintain our leadership in preserving local history!

Programs – Oh boy! There are so many ways here that you can help – even for just ONE program! Here’s a few – come up with new ideas for DHS programs; identify/listen to/find out the cost & recommend potential speakers and/or events; join our “historical reenactors” for our cemetery walks, a planned show next fall, etc.; help brainstorm ideas on what/when/where for activities in our three museums as well as for DHS.

Interpretive Guides – All of the three museums, the 1736 Josiah Dennis Manse Museum, the Jericho Historical Center and the 1867 West Dennis Graded School House have committees that see to their operation and well-being. These committees are seeking men and women to become interpretive guides to host visitors in the summer and during special occasions. You set your schedule! As the Town of Dennis owns these three museums, joining one of these committees supports the Town, the individual museum and the Dennis Historical Society that owns most of the artifacts on display.
